Frequent reocurring bladder infections

My 22 year daughter gets regular bladder infections 6 to 7 times a year and has had a very bad kidney infection before. Our GP seems to think its not too serious,but I would feel better if she saw a urologist or a nephrologist. She drinks lots of water and wipes from front to back and all the other things that they suggest.

She definitely needs to see an urologist if she gets more than 3 infections per year - she may have a stone in the kidney or an abnormality in one of the urine tubes. Make an appointment for her as soon as possible.

HI Carol

I do not know if your daughter is sexually active but I had a problem with frequently re-occuring UTI's and I found that emptying my bladder after intercourse has made a huge difference as well as showering and not bathing. I take one cranberry capsule a day (available from the health shop) drink half a glass of cranberry juice 3 times a week. The gynae has prescribed something called Diprogenta which is a gel that you use a pea size amount of at a time, used before being intimate which prevents bacteria from entering your urethra.

My doc said me having 6 UTI's in 5 months - that if i get another one within 3 months he would send me to the specialist. Touch wood no reoccurance - been 1.5 years now.

I really feel sorry for your daughter - UTI's are terrible!
