Dear Olly
As we get older, the wear and tear changes in the spine and other joints can cause these funny noises. In the neck especially you can get little bony growths on the facet joints called osteophytes growing on the spine. These can rub on the bone and cause the noises and sometimes even discomfort. If it does not bother you, don't worry about it. Doctors are not keen on removing them as they just grow back- unless it really causes major discomfort.
