Our expert says:
Gangrene is caused by tissue dying due to blood flow being cut off - can be due to something like diabetes, or an injury or a tight bandage or Paster of paris, or excessive cold. The early signs of dry gangrene are a dull ache and sensation of coldness in the area, along with pale colour of the flesh - later on the skin becomes black and can get infected, causing wet gangrene with a yellow pussy centre, black edges and infection (red) on the surrounding skin .
