Hallo Debbie
This is often due to overexertion of the small muscles of the foot or micro tears in the plantar fascia or connective tissue. He can try anti-inflammatories like Brufen or Neurofen but resting the foot a while (week or two) is also important. If this does not help he needs to see a doctor - other treatments include cortisone injections, plaster of paris, and physiotherapy. Avoid surgery if possible
