Our expert says:
Well, it depends what angle you want to take on it. Eating is the 'enabler' which is critical to enable exercise to be performed. In otherwords, failure to eat properly can very easily undo fitness, or just limit you from exercising altogether. But it's quite tricky, because fitness is such a generic term - does it mean strength, does it mean endurance, does it mean speed, does it mean building muscle, does it mean running, cycling etc. So it's a really tricky one, you need to define the scope of what you mean by fitness first and then you can see what role nutrition plays. But generally, nutrition is important because whatever you do, your body needs energy and nutrients that are only avilable in food, and so for the body to adapt and be able to perform any exercise, it needs very specific nutrients. That's the generic answer, hope it gives you the right direction. If there's a specific one, feel free to let me know in another one!
