Fat vs Calories

One thing that always intrigues me is the hype made about the calorific value of food and not how much fat the food contains.
Obviously, both values matter but surely it is more important to watch the fat content of food than how many calories it contains.

Dear CK
You are quite correct that both the energy and fat contents of foods must be taken into account. Fat provides 9 cal per gram, while protein and carbohydrate only provide 4 cal per gram - a large difference. A great deal of emphasis is placed on reducing fat intake to reduce weight and most dietitians use a low-fat, high-fibre diet to promote weight loss in patients.
