Sounds pretty complicated, and I'm not 100% confident that my 'guess' based on this email will be any better than having two doctors already look at it. My first suspicion is trapped nerve,or problem in your lower back, because that would account for the pain that seems to spred down your leg. if it was just muscle or bone or tendon, it would be in one place only. So I would guess it's lower back and sonar would not really show that.
So my advice is to get to a physio or possibly even a sports doctor, who specializes in sports medicine. But a physio might be a good start, they will be able to examine the lower back and your leg and see if there is anything about the nerves that could explain this one. It does require a physical examination though, so it's certainly the best to do.
