Egg quality and progesterone levels

Dear Fertility Expert

Is there any direct or indirect correlation between egg quality and D21 progesterone levels?

In other words, does a higher progesterone level indicate that the egg quality was better than a previous tested level.

2 months ago, my level was 26.9 and this cycle it was 42.7

Thanks in advance

Dear Nessa

The progesterone levels are an indirect reflection of the activity of the granulosa cells contained within the follicle. The levels are not only a reflection of cell numbers, but also cell functionality, and therefore, should there be a significant difference in progesterone levels, this would imply better functionality or a higher volume of granulose cells overall.
However, this unfortunately does not necessarily correlate with the oocyte quality itself. It is possible to harvest oocytes of poor quality/defective zona pellucidas (egg walls) despite adequate progesterone levels.
