The levels are not only a reflection of cell numbers, but also cell functionality, and therefore, should there be a significant difference in progesterone levels, this would imply better functionality or a higher volume of granulose cells overall.
However, this unfortunately does not necessarily correlate with the oocyte quality itself. It is possible to harvest oocytes of poor quality/defective zona pellucidas (egg walls) despite adequate progesterone levels.
