Early development for 9 year old

My daughter (8 turning 9 in March next year), is already developing pubic hair  some little boobs etc. is this the right age? should i be worried about this fast development? what would be the pros and cons for this? am worried...

Hi Iza,

No you have nothing to worry about, many girls hit puberty at this age. The normal range is from about 8 years to 13 years for girls. Boys tend to start puberty a little later. There are no cons and this tends to be linked to genetic pre-disposition. What is important is you help educate your daughter with regards to puberty and some of the changes she can expect in her body and what they mean.

Not to worry some girls start as young as 8. Its a good time to get a book called Whats Happening to My Body For Girls. It can be found on Kalahari . com.Its about R150.00 for the book. Its a great book that explains in detail what going to happen to her over the next few years. Its for girls from 8-16
