You've asked a very important and also very complex question. There are so many challenges to face, including disappointment and guilt over having had a child with a problem ( even though it is of course in no way any parent's fault when this occurs) ; and a host of diferent challenges as the child grows and develops.
Maybe the best reference I can give yould be the Down Syndrome Association, which provides advice and support groups for parents. There's branch in Pretoria, at 347 Roper St, Baileys Muckleneuk, 012- 460-9213 ; and in Joburg at Room 114, TMI Building, Joubert St Ext, 011-484 6116, or 011-933-8322c; and they should know if there are other branches in other parts of the country
I see there's also a SAIDA< SA Inherited Disorders FOundation, 011-484-3261, and at least a branch in Sasolberg, maybe elsewhere, too.
Apart from that, do ask further more specific questions here on the forum, as they arise. YOu'll find sympathetic and helpful folks abopund here ( well, they do most of their abounding during the week, and especially office hours ! ) , and one of our stalwarts, CP Mom, may have some special insights here, too.
