dog training

i have a jack russel 17 months old. He refuses to sleep in his kennel and he tears up his blankets to shreds. He is on his 28th blanket.

What can i do to train him to stop tearing up blankets and also to stay in is kennel?

Why does he disloike his kennel? Some dogs refise to sleep in a kennel and prefer the "stoep" or a sheltered tree / shrub in the garden and others prefer being indoors. Have you tried having his sleep in the kitchen in a dog bed?

Thank you for the replies. Sorry was on leave.

During the first 10 months i used to keep him inside at night in the study since there was a big cat owned by my neighbours that would have devoured him.

The thing is he thinks the study is ok to act as an ablution area.

He does not like the sound of the rain on the kennel roof. Rain and water scares him.The kennel is the wood log type with a masonite wood roof.

Stop buying him new blankets - get a piece of carpeting for the kennel.

Why must he stay in his kennel?

As long as you've provided him with shelter, etc, he will decide where he feels most comfortable.
