Dear Anilmenon
Unsifted maize meal has a lower glycaemic index (GI) than white, sifted maize meal, so it is preferred for diabetics. If you make maize meal porridge, cooling it down and then eating it also lowers the GI. Sorghum porridge has a low GI and is beneficial. Diabetics should not drink alcohol unless this has been permitted by the dr prescribing the medication you use (tablets or insulin).
