I have a 6 month old daschund, she keeps scratching her ears until they are burning red. They give off a stench about 2 days after bathing her, but i make sure her ears are clean and dry. What could be the problem? I changed her shampoo as she was getting very dry skin. Could i possibly wipe tissue oil on the inside of her ears to moisturise them.

Dear Lisa

Use a liquid ear cleaner a few times a week and put her on efazol oil daily. Anal glands that are full will also give off a strong smell, have them checked out.

Your dachshund probably has ear mites. Go and get a cleaning solution from your vet, use it as directed, and if it doesn' t clear up, take the dog to be seen - she may need a prescription medication.
