hello Doc

i' d like to know if it' s possible for a woman to fall pregnant while she' s on contraceptives? what would be the possible reason/s for this to happen? does it have anything to do with her or the guy' s hormones? or their diet? i' d just like to know the possible reason/s for this to happen.

thank you

Hi Penny
Women do fall pregnant on contraception as no contraception is 100% failproof. 1-2% of women fall pregnant after a sterilization ( because the tube is not tied off properly) , 1% fall pregnant with an IUD ( mostly because the IUD falls out or shifts or does not work properly), 0.3% with hormonal contraceptive injection, 5 % with the pill ( due to skipped pills or absorbtion problems - taken with antibiotics or when you have diarrhoea etc) 14% with condoms ( due to breakage or slipping)
