is it safe to visit the dentist while being pregnant won't the medication anaesthetic have any effect on the baby.

You should definately visit the dentist when you are pregnant. Firstly, you are more prone to dental problems and secondly, an infection could cause premature labour.

Just make sure that the dentist knows that you are pregnant and he will not do x-rays. Everything else should be fine.
