Recently I found a website where you can place an ad in the classified section for free. I have a range of products that I want to sell and need to send it via postal order to the buyers. I would like to know, what is the safest way, for them to pay me? Can I give my bank account number so that they can pay me direct via internet banking or what do u suggest I do? I don’t know if it is save giving my bank account number over the internet, is it?

Thanks for the hel

Hi there,

giving your account details is probably the safest way, as cheques may bounce. But I would check out thoroughly how you are protected from handing over goods and then not getting paid for them as this could be a scam where 'imaginary' buyers offer to buy your goods, you send the goods off and then never see any money.

Check it out carefully before you go ahead, and involve your parents in checking things out - despite what some teenagers think they do know a thing or two!! Also if your gut feeling is to be nervous about this, which from your question sounds that way then don't do it.

Best wishes

Not sure. I think you need to phone their toll free help line number and find out, otherwise contact your local branch.

As I said before, please be careful about releasing any goods before cheques have cleared etc.

Good luck!

Hey guys thanks for the help.

How do i know if my money is being payed in my bank account. i dont do internet banking and the bank is 60km away from where i live?

i saw on tv you can get your details via sms - but i think its only FNB. Does anyone know if Standard Bank provide the same service.

Lots of thank you's for your help.

I work for one of the big 4 and they strongly warn against releasing goods until you phycially check that your money is in fact in the bank. It is very easy to falsify a copy of a bank deposit slip!

What are u selling anyway?

Giving your bank details (account number) is pretty much the best way. Then they can do internet banking or pay it in at a branch of your bank.

What products are u selling??
