In a case where the tendons were torn with an accompanying fracture the chances are very good that it needed to be fixed. Did you see an orthopedic surgeon ? Maybe the problem should be reassessed by someone else. It is important not to leave it for too long as the problem could become irrepairable if it requiered fixing in the beginning.
