What foods should be avoided while breastfeeding to prevent cramps for the baby? We found that beans and onions are major culprits, but she still gets cramps.

Dear Wilna
Any very spicy or very fatty foods, raw onions and garlic, the entire cabbage family, dry beans, peas, lentils and soya. Unluckily many processed foods contain textured vegetable protein' that is made from soya so it is a good idea to read all food labels and to avoid those foods that contain potential gas-producing ingredients. Once the baby's digestive tract has matured, you may find that she can drink breast milk which contains some gas-producing compounds without reacting, but this take time.
