Our expert says:
In general it is recommended that adults should have between 6 (women) and 8 (men) servings of carbohydrates a day. The following are regarded as 1 serving: Bread - 1 slice (about 30g); cereals and porridges - 1/2 cup; cooked pasta, rice or mashed potato; 1 medium - boiled or baked potato/sweet potato, mielie. So if you don't eat any of these other carbohydrate foods, then you can eat 6 to 8 slices of bread a day. The fats we add to bread like margarine or butter tend to increase our energy intake more than the actual carbs we eat.
