Dear Dee
Degeneration means that you have the normal wear and tear changes we experience as we get older (osteo-arthritis. This means that the articulation surfaces and cartilege between the vertebrae are not as well oiled as they used to be. The intevertebral spaces become narrower, there may even be some bony growths on the vertebrae called osteophytes that can cause discomfort and pain when pressing on surrounding soft tissue and nerves. A course of anti-inflammatory drugs may relieve the pain and you should stay as mobile as possible. Some people may not even experience discomfort.
