Our expert says:
Boils are an infection and is caused by a bacterium. They are more common in areas of increased sweating and friction. Also more common in sugar diabetes, in persons with asthma/hay fever/eczema and in a number of other conditions where the immunity is depressed. The bacterium must be cultured from the skin to prove the diagnosis. Your GP will know what to do. If the diagnosis is correct an appropriate antibiotic should be given an an antibacterial ointment applied in the nose to kill the bug. Your doctor may request a blood test or two.
