Thank you for visiting health24.com.

Cancer will not be picked up with normal blood tests. You will have to request spesific tests.

Kind regards

Good day, I was just wondering if there is a bloodtest that can be done to determine if any cancerious cells is present in a persons' s blood cells. If so, what is it called and what laboratory group in South Africa is performing such bloodtests?

Blood tests are not used specifically to diagnose cancer, i.e. other symptoms are looked at such as if you have possible breast cancer problems would show up in a mammogram and further investigation might be necessary. Abdomen ultrasound might also eg show up possible colon, bowel cancer etc. Blood tests are not used as diagnosing cancer.

What are you worried about?

You would have to have specific worrying symptoms for a doctor to consider cancer as a possible diagnosis.
