Blood tests

Please could you explain something to me, does one only pick up HIV in an actual HIV test. If one has other blood tests, will the doctor pick up irregularaties and then send the patient to have an HIV test?

Dear Sam
One can only diagnose HIV with an actual HIV test but doctors can suspect HIV on the grounds of specific infections, low white cell counts, and concomitant symptoms and will then probably ask the patient to consider a HIV test.
