Bilharsia

Hi, we lived in Africa up to 1995 and had limited contact with fresh water. We were told that the risk was only in water that was slow moving or still, such as lakes canls etc and that the faster the fresh water was flowing the lesser the risk that the worm could get a grip on the skin. Is this true or not.

Dear Martin
Any water that will hold the host snails will potentially be able to carry bilharzia. If you are worried, go for the antibody blood test.
