Bi-Polar

Hi.
How is the bi-polar transferred genetically??

Both me and my husband are CLEAR, but my husbands two sisters have severe bi-polar and his mother has quite bad depression. What are the chances of our children having some depression related problem ??

Dear Worried

Bi-polar is caused by a complex interaction between multiple genetic and environmental factors. Therefore it is not possible to give an accurate estimate for your children. Best is to find out as much as possible about environmental factors that may trigger the disease and try to avoid that.
