Babies sucking ice cubes

Please tell me if it is safe for a 13 month old baby to suck ice cubes? My daughter in law lets my granddaughter suck one when she cries to do so, but I am sure I have heard that it is dangerous as the child stands a chance of choking (which she did the other day) but then my daughter in law said she can have small ones. It worries me and I get very nervous when I am around!

Bev, the problem is that the baby might choke on the ice cube, but the cold water shouldn’t do much harm. Good luck.
