Dear AR

It is important that one maintains the ARV treatment for as long as is necessary. However in the first trimester I would recommend stopping ARV treatment since the effect on embryo development and the possibility of congenital abnormalities are not yet fully known. Therefore it is important to optimise the condition prior to attempting conception and to do abandon ARV in the first trimester and resume it thereafter.
