Adult cats eating kittens?

Does anybody know about this phenomenon and what might cause it?
My sister yesterday came across half-eaten kitten corpses at a feral colony where she feeds. There were no meerkats, red mongooses or dogs around, the obvious suspect is one of the adult cats.
I've heard of dogs eating their young but not cats. Any information or advice would be appreciated.

Hi there

Yes, some cats do also do this. If you goto www.animal-behaviour.org.za there should be alot more information regarding this. There is also a book out called why does my cat by Sarah Heath. Some info in there as well.
