Abnormalties when relatives marry.

Hi Doctor. I've heard about blood relatives that married. In one case there was actually a baby born from the marriage that was 100% normal. I was under the impression that such a baby will always be abnormal. Why is that? What is the cause of abnormalities; blood or genes?
Hope you can help me with this question

In the case of relatives marrying the baby will not always be abnormal at birth. With inbreeding the effect of "bad" genes will become more pronounced. It really is not a good idea for blood relatives to have children.
