Resume of sexual activity after lumbar discectomy and lumbar laminectomy surgery

I have had the mentioned lower back surgery almost three weeks ago and me and my husband would like to resume with sexual activity but I am very scared because I am not sure when it will be safe to resume sexual activity. Please can you help us in this matter?

I suggest you discuss your specific progress and recovery with your surgeon – as he/she will have a far clearer indication of where you are at and what you could endure and partake in.  Depending on the patient, sexual activity could be resumed a week after the procedure if the patient feels comfortable.  The crucial factor in this regard is the comfort level of the patient.  As soon as the patient experienced discomfort – stop and either leave it of explore another position.  Discomfort and pain are the body’s way to alert potential damage.

I had a laminectomy at the L2 and fusion at the L4 & L5, i had my surgery on a Friday it was a intensive surgery that last nine hours and was released from the hospital on a Tuesday. I still have some pain and numbness in both of my legs but the doctor says it is still part of my recovery process. As far as sex we have not tried yet and its not that i don't want to its just that i don't want to re-injure my lower back

I have been celibate for quite a while. I should say first, I am going thru physical therapy first. I have not had the surgery yet. I will be having a lumbar limenectomy, SCARED TO PIECES. I want to be able to have sex with my new man, after the surgery. I am getting better with the meds, but I am scared now, BEFORE the surgery. Anybody have any thoughts on this. Thank you, MJ

I just had my first surgey ever (microdisectomy l5-s1) and today is my one month post op mark. I am 24, btw. My surgery was on a Sunday (it was an emergency surgery, couldn't walk and had other issues) and I was released on Tuesday. We had sex that thursday! Even though my doc said no sex for 21 days. Which I thought was a random number but anyways... I basically took my pain meds and laid on my side and he did the work. It wasn't comfrotable and it took a while for him to finish bc he kept stopping to see if I was ok. But he was gentle and got his job done. So, be careful! Listen to ur body!! We have had sex 3-4 times since then and I'm still basically just laying there, but I refuse to reherniate!

24 years ago I had a laminectomy. the operation came about after an extended period of extreme debilitating pain for which I was given morphine. I have been left with permanent nerve damage in my left leg. The operation took place at 5pm on a Thursday I was released from hospital on the Sunday and had sex with my wife on that same day. I was cautious but very pleased and happy. The surgeon's only comment to me on physical activity was about not playing golf for at least 6 months. I managed to stay away from golf for 5 1/2 months. I have had no need for so much as a disprin for back pain in all the following years.
