Pacemaker

Hi, my dad is 82 and his heartbeat is around 40. The doctor suggested a pacemaker. Isn't he too old for it?

Hi

Any type of surgery has risks and especially when one is older. The heart rate of 40 is also dangerous, it is probably due to a heart block  - and depending on the degree, it could also be fatal. So it is really a difficult decision to make, but in the end your dad will have to make the decision and weigh the pro's and con's with the help of the doctor and the family. Good luck.
