Can I break a rib while coughing?

Before perky 5' singer Gloria Estefan's 1990 bus crash she came down with a severe case of acute bronchitis and a strep throat. (That triggered the lingering cough my 4'10" friend Joanie battled for about 6 months after getting over viral pneumonia.) Gloria sadly came down too with pneumonia when blood vessels in her throat chest and bronchial tubes broke while she battled cough spasms from this bronchitis. But I found out she also suffered 4 broken ribs during this bronchitis viral pneumonia. Could the cough spasms Gloria suffered during this illness cause her to break her 4 ribs?

Yes. You can easily break a rib whilst coughing.  This usually takes a few months to heal and can be very painful.

Sadly the impact of 5' Gloria's coughing spasms from her bronchial pneumonia caused her 4 broken ribs.

Probably because Gloria like I stated suffered severe coughing spasms from this illness and likely at one point the excess pressure from the nagging cough broke Gloria's ribs.
