3TC out of stock country wide for two weeks now

Our pharmaceutical companies are failing us here. I have been waiting for 3TC for almost two weeks now and can't get it from my always reliable pharmacy. What are the dangers of not taking medication for two weeks?

You should never be out of medication!!!!! this may cause drug resistance. As far as I am aware there is no shortage of 3TC. You must Question you supplier.

How long will I know if there virus is drug resistant? Will I see the symptoms or should the blood be tested first?

I'm sorry to hear about your little girl.It must be hard to see her suffer.I hope Nelisa reads this so she can cut you some slack. If the pharmacist says wait then it should probably be alright but they better get their act together and have enough medical supplies. Now that medication is affordable its out of stock, what exactly is this world coming too.Are we reaching the end or what coz it just doesn't get any better...Enough about that.Sit tight and Good Luck once again.

I am not on ARV, but my little girl is. I asked the pharmacist what should I do, give her the Retrovir and Viramune only and she says I should stop everything and then continue when everything is ready because all three of them work together. She has been using them for almost two years now. ARV are not yet on the healthy stage WRT side effects, but they are worth it. Atleast they prolong our lives, we can deal with the side effects later. Like now, my daughter is having nail problems, and I think I will wait for a month or so before I persuade my doctor to change the -|- tail if she is not getting any better.

I heard the minister saying these are the reasons why they don't just roll out ARV because it will be chaos when they get short supplied like it is the case now.

Thats a bad situation you're in my friend.Unfortunately i can't give you a definate answer but from what i have gathered,if you take a break with your medication then the virus could develop resistance to it and when you start taking it again,it might not work and then you will have to change to a new combination.I don't know how much damage 2 weeks can make but you ought to speak to your GP or careprovider and they can probably make a more informed decision based on your condition.
How long have you been on medication and how long have you been infected for(roughly).I am just curious coz i haven't yet started on ARV and i think its my worst fear right now.
Good Luck and God Bless.
