17b-Estradiol - What is this?

I went for my CD21 bloodtests yesterday. They tested FSH,LH and progesterone. The also tested 17b-estradiol. I was just wondering what hormone that is and what they test for. Thanx Jab

Dear jab

The 17 beta-estrodial is the circulating estrogen level which is produced by the ovary. It's significance on sday 21 is questionable. It is more commonly tested in association with the other hormones on day 2 or 3 of the cycle when they are collectively indicative of ovarian reserve.
