Our expert says:
Every month when you ovulate, a follicle forms on the ovary and then it releases an egg which moves to the uterus. If the egg is not fertilized, you menstruate. However, if you have a cyst (an abnormal follicle) this can sometimes cause irregular menstruation. You can have your hormones tested to see if you are menopausal but I think you may be a bit young for it. Sterilization may cause hormonal upsets due to changing of blood flow after the operation. Your doctor could check your hormone levels and give you an oral contraceptive for a month or two to stimulate menstruation again.
