Piling up those winter kilos? Don't!

It's winter and, for many South Africans, also holiday time. Unfortunately, this could be a dangerous combo when it comes to weight management. So what can you do to keep the kilos off?

Take action:

Don't try to diet during the holidays – instead, set a more realistic goal of not gaining weight; pace yourself by monitoring how quickly you eat – savour your food by choosing it carefully and eating it slowly; if you're having alcohol, choose light beer and wine over mixed drinks; continue a regular exercise programme over the holidays - even if it's just a 20-minute walk every day; keep tabs on your portion sizes – instead of eating a large amount of food, try eating a large variety of foods; if you're hosting a dinner party, be sure to include low-calorie and fat-free snacks.
