Divorce rates are lower in families where husbands help out with the housework, shopping and childcare, according to a study of 3 500 British couples. No surprises there. Closer scrutiny will probably also reveal that no woman has ever murdered her husband while he was cleaning the kitchen.
Jokes aside. Think about it. The message that a guy sends out when he helps with these tasks is as follows: "We're in this together and I don't want you to exhaust yourself doing it all alone." However, the message that is sent out if he doesn't lift a finger is the following: "I am more important than you are, housework is beneath me and besides that's your job, even if you also work full-time. I mow the lawn on Saturdays, don't I?" Seriously, which partner would you choose?
