Mmmmm, yeah. Throw us a nice sandwich around lunchtime and we’ll eat that thing like rabid hyenas. Bread and humans just seem to go together very nicely.
But as the low-carb sensation that’s sweeping the nation has shown us, bread particularly enjoys fitting around your waistline, and staying there. So should we be throwing out the ciabatta? Burning the rye fields?
Not really, no. A little bit of bread every now and again is a welcome treat, just stay away from the white stuff. A massive study conducted in Spain showed that people who frequently ate white bread were 40% more likely to become obese than those who didn’t. Those who ate wholewheat bread were not affected.
So, you can have your sandwich and eat it, as long as it isn’t on white bread.
