About Health24

accreditation
BACKGROUND

Health24 is South Africa's leading health and lifestyle website. It was established by its MD, Dr Danie Pauw. In November 2000, a majority stake was sold to Media24, a leading publishing company in the Naspers Group, Africa's leading media & publishing company.

Health24 falls into the online publishing division of Media24, 24.com, and is a member of the Interactive Advertising Bureau of South Africa (IAB).

EDITORIAL

Health24 content is educational, relevant, and medically reviewed. It is accessible and trustworthy, and is designed to enable readers to make informed decisions about their health. The site covers a wide range of topics, such as in-depth information on common medical conditions, diet, fitness, pregnancy, parenting, mind health – even pet health. It is continually being updated by a team of medical specialists and journalists. Bustling Ask-an-Expert forums featuring over 40 experts and some brilliant interactive tools provide a dynamic user experience.

Health24's content is editorially independent from its commercial partners and will not be censored or edited according to the demands or requests of these partners. Any paid-for content will be clearly marked as such. Health24 reserves the right to refuse or remove content that breaches our editorial values. Health24 is committed to presenting a holistic account of medical information and will not ignore or remove information that clashes with the commercial goals of its partners.

THE HEALTH24 COMMUNITY

Health24 is intended for a general audience. Each month, around 2 million individual people visit Health24.

In addition to its own audience, Health24 is the health partner to the following major SA portals: 24.com and News24.com. The result is that the majority of online South Africans use Health24 as their destination for health information.

Nearly three-quarters of Health24's community is in the 25-49 year age group, and 60% are women. Just over half are parents, and they fall into the LSM 6-10 group.
A user survey indicated that 77% of Health24 readers consult the internet before visiting a health professional.
