The late statesman Nelson Mandela ended "pension apartheid" - and the polarising National Health Insurance (NHI) seeks to do the same for "apartheid healthcare".

This was President Cyril Ramaphosa's message to ANC supporters on Sunday, after half-a-week of differing feedback about the NHI, which he signed into law on Wednesday. 

Hours after weekend publications published stories about looming litigation over the NHI, Ramaphosa doubled-down on the NHI when he addressed party supporters during his last campaign stop in Isipingo, south of Durban.
