Diamond dealer Louis Liebenberg, who has donated over R3 million to help cover former President Jacob Zuma's legal costs, has failed to stand for Parliament as an independent candidate in Limpopo and Mpumalanga for the upcoming elections.
The Electoral Court of South Africa has ruled that Liebenberg did not submit enough valid voter ID numbers and signatures to appear on the ballot in the two provinces.
While the 59-year-old remains on the regional ballot for the Free State and Gauteng, the court's decision will make it more difficult for him to win a seat in Parliament.
