A tour of Magugu House by Thebe Magugu, where heritage meets unconventional brilliance

By Phumi Ramalepe

South African luxury fashion designer Thebe Magugu recently unveiled his first brick-and-mortar retail store, opting for an unconventional approach and transforming a double-storey house into a multifaceted fashion haven.

The unique space serves as a gallery to display some of their most cherished pieces and also houses a showroom dedicated to their exquisite luxury clothing collections and more.

Situated at 52 Bompas Road, Dunkeld, Johannesburg, the store is an eye-catching landmark easily identifiable by two striking blackboards on either side of the gate, written 'Thebe Magugu' in bold white letters

From past to present: Virtual reality exhibition to connect young people with District Six

By Storm Simpson

This year, the District Six Museum will commemorate its 30th anniversary, and a virtual reality (VR) exhibition titled The District Six Experience: A Walk Through Time will be part of the celebrations.

The project, a collaboration between the museum, Loud Rabbits Agency, and the Academy of Digital Arts game course alumni aims to immerse users in the rich history of District Six.

Engaging younger audiences and ensuring the legacy of District Six is preserved for future generations is at the heart of the project, which uses advanced game technology to bring the sights and sounds of the past to life.

Lesley-Ann Brandt honours her Cape Flats roots in her new role

By Caryn Welby-Solomon

Lesley-Ann Brandt has become somewhat of a national treasure. She has gained legions worldwide since her role as Mazikeen in the wildly popular Lucifer, but here in her home country, she is adored.

This was evident when she stepped onto the main stage at Comic-Con Cape Town. Crowds cheered, and one could hardly find a seat to watch her interview with the master of ceremonies, DJ Elliot. Even when the audience was given a chance to ask questions, many just gushed about how much they admired her and saw her as a role model.

Waterfall Corner's latest addition, Math™ Restaurant, fits right in with the amber glow warmly beaming from its neon sign, nestled in the middle of the Midrand shopping centre's dining destinations.

The restaurant, owned by Puleng Mathabatha, opened its doors this month. It is a tribute to a rich history of entrepreneurship and community engagement that stretches back nearly 50 years.

Mathabatha draws inspiration from his parents' thriving hardware store in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo.

Ford goes to the movies: Iconic on-screen moments over the past 100 years

By Stuart Johnston

Compiling a bucket list of great movies, featuring Ford Motor Company products, is more about excluding the ones you'd need to, rather than cherry-picking the celluloid masterpieces with a Ford deserving of at least a co-starring credit.

It seems as if Fords have always been in movies. Just as the fledgling Ford South Africa production line was cranking up to full speed in Port Elizabeth 100 years ago, the great comedy duo, Laurel and Hardy, were gaining traction in Hollywood with a string of hits that featured, more often than not, a Model T Ford.
