Out of a group of over 100 types of HPV, about 30 types can be passed from person to person through sexual contact.

Some types of HPV cause genital warts.

Genital HPV infections often do not have signs and symptoms that you can see or feel. One study reported that almost half of women infected with HPV had no obvious symptoms.

Using a condom may reduce your chances of being infected with HPV, however, condoms can't always cover all of the affected skin.

HPV cannot be cured. Once a person is infected they carry the virus for life.

There are various ways of treating/removing genital warts. However, because HPV (the cause of the warts) cannot be cured, the warts often reoccur.

Multiple sex partners increase your risk of being infected with HPV.

Some genital warts occur on the inside wall of the vagina, or the cervix. Some warts are so small they can only be identified under a microscope.

It is estimated that 60 to 80 percent of sexually active individuals are infected with HPV.
