The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the introduction of the world’s first vaccine against the mosquito-borne disease, Malaria on Monday.
Africa is the continent that sees the highest number of malaria cases, with 429,000 people losing their lives to the mosquito-borne illness in 2015.
The ‘Mosquirix vaccine (also called RTS, S) was created with the hopes of protecting children from the deadliest form of malaria, known as Plasmodium falciparum said WHO.
The new Malaria vaccine will be tested in children between the ages of 5 and 17 in Kenya, Ghana and Malawi starting in 2018.
