Wednesday's weather: Early fog expected in some parts of SA, with thunderstorms later

South Africans can expect morning fog over the west and south coast of the country, with thunderstorms and rain forecast over the central and eastern interior, according to the South African Weather Service.

Partly cloudy and cool temperatures with isolated showers and thundershowers are forecast for Gauteng.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy at first, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions are expected with isolated showers and thundershowers over the Highveld.

Partly cloudy and cool to warm temperatures are expected in Limpopo with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-west.

The North West can expect partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions, with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the east.

Morning fog patches are forecast in eastern Free State, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the central parts.

The Northern Cape will have morning and evening fog along the coast and in places in the east at first, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm but partly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the east.

The wind along the coast will be a light southerly to south-westerly.

Cloudy and cool conditions are expected in the west and south west coastal areas of the Western Cape with morning fog patches.

Otherwise, fine and warm temperatures are forecast. It will become cloudy with fog patches along the south-west and south coast from evening.

The wind along the coast will be a light southerly north of Cape Columbine at first. Otherwise, a moderate north-westerly to westerly becoming a moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly along the entire coastline in the afternoon is expected.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

The western half of the Eastern Cape can expect partly cloudy and warm conditions, becoming cloudy in the north with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme north.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly.

Partly cloudy and warm conditions are forecast for the eastern half of the province, but it will be cool in places over interior.

It will become cloudy with isolated thundershowers in places in the north-east.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal will have morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm temperatures with isolated showers and thundershowers expected over the central interior but scattered in the extreme west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, but strong at times in places south of Cape St Lucia.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.
