More than 17 000 police officers will ensure crime-free voting in political violence hotspot KwaZulu-Natal this election at a cost of R40 million, according to provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi was speaking at the Electoral Commission of SA's (IEC) code of conduct signing ceremony at the Durban International Convention Centre, which voters, party agents, jurists, politicians, and the media attended, among others.
He assured that the police would enforce the law during the elections.
