Of the 39.7 million South Africans that have a right to vote, 69.9% are registered to vote on 29 May – according to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
Compared to men, about 3 million more women are expected to vote this year, with a 55% representation of registered voters. However, among the candidates, women only make up 42% of all those seeking elected office.
