A debate in the UK on trophy hunting took a new turn on Friday, with an organisation just one step away from the influential royal family coming out in support of African countries making their own decisions.

The UK's ruling Conservative Party promised in 2019 it would ban the import of trophies of endangered animals, including elephants, but legislation to do so fell by the wayside in 2023.

A new bill has the support of the House of Commons, and is currently before the House of Lords, with the prospect that it could be enacted before the end of the year.
