Netcare's Road Safety Foundation, Petro Kruger said, "A staggering 42 percent of road deaths were pedestrians. While 55 percent were caused by drunken driving. Driver fatigue also played a major role".
Netcare 911 medical director, Dr Glenn Staples said drivers must consider the importance of being in good mental and physical condition when taking a road trip.
"Drivers need to ensure that they are rested and alert and their vehicle is roadworthy," said Staples.
"Whenever you find yourself in a spot of trouble - where people are hurt and in need of medical attention call 082-911," he said. – (Sapa)
