Sporting gold and diamond trimmings, the latest hearing aids are much more than just functional hearing devices.
They’re a chic addition to any fashion victim’s collection.
Leading hearing-aid manufacturer Widex has recently manufactured a hearing piece and remote control made of 24 carat gold and encrusted with 220 diamonds. It’s valued at an impressive £25 000 (R362 500) in the United Kingdom.

However, the device is still primarily a hearing aid, and the manufacturers don’t encourage people to buy it for any other function, says Fiona McGuirk from Widex South Africa.
But the demand for the fashionable device has been so overwhelming that the company simply had to supply it to interested buyers.
“We can’t stop the users of Widex from expressing their love and passion for what our hearing aids do for them,” McGuirk says.
